THE NEW SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICY
Principles
Every young person has a right to benefit
from all the educational opportunities provided.
Parents, teachers and educational welfare
officers have a duty to ensure the best possible attendance of students in
school.
Aims
á
To enable the best
possible attendance through valuing high attendance rates
á
To encourage
students to take full advantage of educational opportunities by attending
regularly
á
To recognise the internal and external factors
which influence student attendance and to work in partnership with parents,
educational welfare officers and other support agencies to address difficulties
Objectives
á
To provide a
quality learning and teaching environment and to foster and recognise students'
achievement so as to encourage attendance
á
To monitor
individual, tutor group and year attendance, to share information with students
and to reward good attendance
á
To identify
patterns of non-attendance at an early age and to work with students, parents
and other agencies to solve any personal and social difficulties
Procedures
á
All staff should
take the opportunities provided to encourage good attendance.
á
The register
should be taken for each registration, morning and afternoon with daily
attendance recorded as a percentage.
á
Any absences
should be followed up with a telephone call home to verify absence with
parents, if a valid reason has not already been given.
á
Any students with
prolonged absence or unauthorised absences will be passed to The Educational
Welfare Officer who will take appropriate action regarding non-attendance and
provide feedback.
