THE NEW SCHOOL BTEC
LEVEL 2 FIRST TRAVEL AND TOURISM POLICY.
BTEC Firsts are vocational
qualifications, an exam free alternative to GCSEÕs, taking a more engaging,
practical approach to learning and assessment. They suit a range of learning
styles and give students a greater chance of success. They are also more
flexible for both student and teacher.
Aims.
á
To help
students develop their understanding and knowledge of a range of travel and
tourism concepts.
á
To help
students to progress their skills ready for the world of work.
á
To
broaden students awareness and knowledge of the world around them, locally,
nationally and internationally.
Teaching and Learning.
á
BTEC
Level 2 First Travel and Tourism is taught within the Edexcel guidelines.
á
Teaching
staff aim to develop studentÕs knowledge and understanding of travel and
tourism concepts.
á
Teaching
styles will be varied where possible. Teaching and Learning will include
teacher led class work, student activities and formal assessment in the form of
set assignments. Students will engage in independent research for these
assignments. There will be opportunities throughout the BTEC for students to
develop their personal, learning and thinking skills. Students will also use
functional skills – English, Maths and ICT.
Planning.
The New School have
adopted the BTEC Level 2 First Travel and Tourism scheme of work. This has been
revised where appropriate.
Assessment and Record Keeping.
á
The BTEC
Level 2 First Travel and Tourism is structured into mandatory units and
optional units, each worth 5 credits. There is also the opportunity to work
towards three different levels of qualification.
The
First Certificate comprises of two mandatory units and one optional unit
– to give a combined total of 15 credits.
The
First Extended Certificate is three mandatory units and three optional units
– to give a combined total of 30 credits.
The
First Diploma is three mandatory units and nine optional units – to give
a combined total of 60 credits.
For
each mandatory and optional unit there are assessment criteria. These will be
covered by set activities and assignments. Students can achieve pass, merit or
distinction on each unit.
Student
work will be internally assessed and then externally moderated by Edexcel. This
will be done through our partner school – Belgrave.

Record
keeping will be in line with Edexcel guidelines.
Inclusion and SEN.
All students will
come from differing backgrounds and have different abilities to learning. The
New School works closely with parents and previous schools to make sure each
individual student may reach their full learning potential.
Safety.
The New School has
its own policy regarding health and safety that can be found in company policy
documents.
Resources.
Resources include
Edexcel set assignments and research materials. Textbooks are located within
the training room. All students have internet access that can aid the learning
process. We also have access to our partner school for any additional resources
required.
