THE
NEW SCHOOL OCR NATIONAL BUSINESS LEVEL 2 POLICY
OCR Nationals are an
exam free alternative to GCSEÕs, taking a more engaging, practical approach to
learning and assessment. They suit a range of learning styles and give students
a greater chance of success. They are also more flexible for both student and
teacher.
Aims.
á
To help
students develop their understanding and knowledge of a range of business
functions and operations.
á
To help
students develop their understanding and knowledge of a range of business
environments.
á
To cover
in some depth issues such as communication and working with people.
á
To get to
grips with important practical tasks, including office administration and
managing money.
á
To help
students prepare for the world of work and to meet the expectations of
employers.
Teaching and Learning.
á
OCR
National Business is taught within the OCR guidelines.
á
Teaching
staff aim to develop studentÕs knowledge and understanding of business
concepts.
á
Teaching
styles will be varied where possible. Teaching and learning will include a
combination of teacher led class work, and independent student research and
study towards OCR set assignments.
Planning.
The New School have
adopted the OCR National Level 2 Business Award scheme of work. This has been
revised where appropriate.
Assessment and Record Keeping.
á
OCR
nationals in Business at Level 2 are offered as two separate qualifications to
accommodate a range of learning styles and abilities.
National
Award – students take mandatory units 1 and 4, plus any other unit.
National
Certificate – students need to achieve mandatory units 1 to 4, plus two
optional units.
All
units are internally assessed and then externally moderated by an OCR visiting
moderator. There are no external tests or exams, and ongoing assessments and
moderations can take place at any time.
All
individual units are graded as pass, merit or distinction. Awards and
certificates are graded in the same way. For students taking individual units,
each unit is certificated separately. Full award certificates will be issued
where appropriate.

Record
keeping will be in line with OCR guidelines.
Inclusion and SEN.
All students will
come from differing backgrounds and have different abilities to learning. The
New School works closely with parents and previous schools to make sure each
individual student may reach their full learning potential.
Safety.
The New School has
its own policy regarding health and safety that can be found in company policy
documents.
Resources.
Resources include OCR
set assignments and research materials. Textbooks are located within the
training room. All students have internet access that can aid the learning
process.
